The Cloud Appreciation Society

I love flying though puffy cumulus clouds. They form on thermals - those invisible columns of air rising from the warm ground (they are sometimes bumpy because of this).

My fascination with these cotton-wool puffs led to the discovery of The Cloud Appreciation Society a few years ago.

In addition to some really great stuff in their online shop (including a unique cloud identifying device), the books that the founder, Gavin Pretor-Prinney has written are very entertaining and informative.

You will learn all about different cloud formations and the altitudes where you will most likely find them. Did you know that Cirrus clouds are the highest and mostly ice crystals?

There are beautiful photographs of clouds submitted by members from all around the globe. They also have an artwork gallery, of which I am a proud member.

Collecting clouds is another way to enjoy the wonder and discovery of flying.
